Beijing Newcomer’s Guide

What Did I Get Myself Into?

Douglas Adams had it right: when you’re completely overwhelmed and think the world has just been blown up before your very eyes—and it will feel like that—the best advice is just, “Don’t panic.”  Breathe.  You will have times of doubt and fear and ignorance, but each is completely normal and okay.  Welcome to Beijing.  Believe me: you will get used to it (well, most of it).

To help people get through the first couple weeks and months we put together a 28-page Beijing Newcomers Guide. This guide is designed for people who are considering living in Beijing for any amount of time.  It’s for people who have made the decision to move and are preparing their family and themselves for the transition.  More than these, though, it’s for expats who are about to land or have just landed in this crazy and wonderful city called Beijing. If you are wondering how you’re going to do the basic things that you need to do to live well in a foreign land, this is the guide for you. No guide could ever be complete, but we spent a lot of time putting this together and it’s full of practical real life information to help make your transition to life in Beijing easier.

Included in the guide are tips for the following:

  • Using public transportation in Beijing
  • Getting SIM card and communicating internationally
  • Eating at a simple Chinese restaurant
  • Buying meal ingredients at markets, supermarkets, and import stores
  • Keeping your money safe
  • Bargaining at various markets
  • Transitioning emotionally to your new life in Beijing

100% Satisfaction Guarantee
We believe that the Beijing Newcomer’s Guide is a great resource and is one of the best introductions to Beijing that you could ask for. The information in the guide is practical and helpful and we’re worked hard to present it in a way that is easy to understand without being overwhelming. We stand by our guides 100%, but i
f you don’t find it helpful or aren’t satisfied we are more than willing to refund your money.

I lived in Beijing 25 years ago and am moving back for work in November. Your newcomer guide provides a lot of updates in one simple and attractive file — thanks so much. I’ll stop in for coffee! Back then we had to pack it in from HK…

Hi there, I am very curious at the expatriate facilities/amendities in Wangjing. I understood that you’ve been working on a Wangjing guide. Do you have that available right now?

I am working on the WangJing guide right now in fact. It should be finished by Christmas.

My family and I will be moving to Beijing by August 1st and I am the “trailing spouse” and am experiencing all kinds of apprehension and fear about the move. I purchased the Newcomer’s guide but was really interested in the Transition Accomplice service, but the link doesn’t seem to go anywhere. Any information on setting this up would be appreciated!
