We have finally sorted out our business license issues and The Aizai Cafe will be reopening this Saturday. We’re going to be open all day during the normal business hours (9am-10pm), but we will be having a Grand Reopening Party in the evening. We would love to see you there. I’ll give free coffee to the first 5 people that come into the cafe on Saturday, so stop by in the morning.
If you want to come and get an introduction to making espresso, steaming milk and creating coffee drinks come at 3pm for the “Espresso Workshop,” it’s ¥25 to cover the cost of ingredients and you can try your hand behind the machine and make some drinks for yourself. Email me if you’re planning on being there and I can save you a spot, otherwise just show up.
In the evening we’ll be having a ribbon cutting ceremony (it’s China so you have to have some pomp and circumstance). And we’ll have some live music in the evening. Kara and I will even sing a song or two. Dinner is on us, Nonya’s Kitchen will be catering the event (we didn’t want to have to work the whole night so we decided to outsource).
We’re excited to be finally reopening, but we’re also sad that Celine, our partner from Hong Kong is going to be moving back to HK at the end of the month. We’re rushing to get everything arranged before she leaves, but it looks like I’ll be taking a more direct role managing the shop. We will probably simplify our menu a bit, but we’ll still have the best coffee in WangJing and some really good bakery items and such. Bring your friends, bring your family, come celebrate with us.
In a related note, I just launched the Middle Kingdom Coffee Club. You can click on the link in the nav bar or on the image in the sidebar of the site for more info, but basically you sign up to get coffee delivered right to your door twice month. It will be high quality coffee from Rickshaw Roasters and you’ll get to try a different type of coffee every couple weeks. I’ll be blogging about the coffee here at The Middle Kingdom so you’ll know what flavors to look for in the cup when you’re drinking it.
